I WONDER if anyone can clarify what being a listed building means, and it is no use asking Warrington Borough Council because they don’t seem to know or care either.

The Manx Arms was a listed building, the Bay Horse was a listed building but both were allowed to be demolished.

The Ship Inn at Walton had stood for more than 100 years but mysteriously ‘fell down’ the day after being visited by the builders of the new housing estate Obviously the ‘Packet House’ will be next.

All these buildings have been deliberately left to become in such a poor state that we are repeatedly told that they were beyond repair.

Yet nobody has been ‘brought to book’ over these actions.

I always understood that listed buildings were protected by law and could only be sympathetically restored and not demolished.

All these buildings could have been used as offices, flats, or other uses but have been demolished for planners to make financial gains.

You can include the old grammar school on this list as well.
