I WANTED to write as a resident of Warburton regarding the dramatic decrease in traffic since the toll booth incident.

As much as I hope no-one was hurt when the toll booth was burnt down, I also want to say that it has been a blessing in disguise.

I live on Paddock Lane so this toll bridge affects my life every day and I don’t even travel over the bridge.

I am disabled and have two young children who attend local schools.

Public transport has been changed over the years due to this traffic and has ended up costing myself nearly £100 a week in taxis just to get them to and from.

We have been unable to go out on school days as we would never have been able to get home at a reasonable time due to the build up.

Being restricted to my own home due to the traffic being so ridiculously bad is not fair and it is all due to an out of date toll that either needs to be abolished or amended asap.

In the days since the toll was burnt down there has been no traffic, no queues, no aggravation, no stress, no anger, no frustration and no negativity in general.

There has been, however, happiness, peace of mind, calmness, ease of traffic and a general relief that nobody has to deal with that ancient toll.

We have been able to come and go from our own home as wanted without fear of being stranded at the end of our road for sometimes an hour in the horrendous build up of cars. We have been able to sit in our front gardens without breathing in terrible amounts of fumes.

We have been able to live in our homes and experience the lovely weather like anyone should be able to and not hidden away inside or trapped from going out.

I think that Peel needs to seriously consider making dramatic changes to this toll and at least not rebuild the toll booth until something is in place to make huge, effective changes.
