FLY in the Ointment has a point about living in Warrington (Warrington Guardian, May 10), but it’s not all about what you earn is it?

Without wishing to patronise low earners (or non-earners) I would rather be poor and look out of my window and see a beautiful building, a field, a lake or a mountain than some of the sites we in Warrington are subjected to – and I’m not referring to the new car park.

Has anyone actually seen a beautiful multi-storey car park?

No, I’m talking about the old buildings.

Why on earth can’t the council force property owners to keep their buildings in good condition?

Trees and bushes are for parks, not roofs and guttering.

Bridge Street has some wonderful buildings but they have been allowed to rot.

Fine the owners if they will not comply.

And what of Warrington Borough Council’s own buildings?

Well get your act together WBC and do something.

Fly in the ointment mentions spending money on libraries.

We all know the old saying: fur coat and no knickers.

It seems our council has adopted the reverse philosophy.

The interiors of most of the libraries are ok-ish, though that’s debatable, while the exteriors have been very badly neglected.

Could this be, despite the very hard work of the Save Warrington Libraries campaigners, the working party headed by Steven Broomhead, the Friends groups and all those people who expressed their objections to the Livewire proposals in 2016, that Warrington Borough Council has another agenda?
