GARY Bebbington is absolutely right about too many badly phased traffic lights in Warrington (Warrington Guardian, April 19).

As everyone who uses the Bridge Foot nightmare is aware, that is one of the worst places to be held up.

Last week I had to visit Riverside Retail Park and low and behold several traffic lights had failed.

Calamity? Far from it. The traffic seemed to flow better.

Not all lights were inoperative but what a difference with a few not working.

I can never understand the lights on Asda Cockhedge island.

When they are off traffic flows very well indeed.

When they switch them on there is mayhem with traffic tailing back on most approaches.

I would like to see those and the Wilderspool Causeway/Chester Road lights switched off and let the rules of the roundabout take their course.
