AS the former treasurer I have recently handed the sum of £3,190 to the new panel of people who are now engaged in trying to provide a theatre for Warrington.

It would appear that the council is to become more involved.

It would seem that if Warrington is to become a City of Culture it must have a theatre.

I will wait to see whether it becomes another sow’s ear or silk purse.

At this present time I have not been invited to attend the meetings that will decide the way forward.

I am led to believe the next step is to find a suitable disused building that could be adapted to meet the requirements for a theatre.

If the council really does want a theatre, I cannot understand why one cannot be built in the many projects that are now taking place.

Or in a future project like the one that is proposed opposite Central station.

Regarding the planning of our town, we now have two fine multistory car parks and the sooner the planners make them redundant the better.

Warrington has one of the worst pollution problems in the UK.

The way Warrington is situated with the river, canals, motorways and railway we find ourselves in a bottleneck.

In my opinion the future for planners is to make the centre a no car zone and a 10-minute electric tram service to all points of the city.

This is the future, so why not make a start now? Then we can all enjoy a night out at the theatre.
