I, LIKE most householders in Warrington, received my council tax demand for 2018/2019.

I was aware that there was going to be an increase.

However upon closer inspection I saw that the precept Cheshire Police was increased by a staggering 7.3 per cent.

All the other precepts ie adult care, fire and rescue, hovered round the three per cent mark, The Cheshire Police figure was twice the increase of other services.

How can this be justified ?

We have PCSOs who are toothless tigers with no powers whatsoever, a complete waste of public money.

Savings could be made making PCSOs redundant. The chief of staff position should be axed.

Common sense has prevailed with the removal of the deputy police and crime commissioner (Warrington Guardian, March 15) saving £50,000.

However has anybody been watching the programme Cop Bodyshop covering Cheshire Police’s motor transport garage at Winsford police headquarters?

The amount of money that is spent on the repairing of police cars is disgusting.

Only this month £150,000 of police car were written off following a police chase on the M56 that ended up in Wythenshawe.

Not only the cost of the vehicles but the increase in insurance premiums because of the amount of claims submitted.

Is this what our council tax increase is being used for?

The increase should be used to put bobbies back on the beat.
