I WONDER if any of the Nimby brigade in Warrington have read the announcements about housing this week?

The Prime Minister has said we are living in a housing crisis and it is time to do something about it.

No longer will councils be able to go unpunished if they fail to meet their housing target.

Put simply, if the council does not meet its target for housebuilding each year, then the Government can come along and allow developers to build where they want.

How is this relevant?

Well our council has a local development plan – some of it good, some not good.

But it is useless putting your head in your sand and saying it won’t happen. It will and if the plan is good and robust, it will control housing.

If not, homes could be built anywhere – and right in the middle of green belt we really do want to protect.

We must accept that more homes need to be built.

And we must make sure the council earmarks the right land for development and there are enough houses so our young people can find somewhere to live.

So the nimbys must have a look in their mirror and decide what they really want unless they want to see a 200-home development coming to a green field in Lymm or Appleton soon.
