IT is good to hear that the chief executive is recommending the retention of all of Warrington libraries (Warrington Guardian online, December 4).
They are a vital resource for all the people of Warrington, and anyone can use them.
There are also possibilities for making more activities to be put on at the same places.
Perhaps literacy groups for adults, many who need to brush up on their skills, some to learn to read if they never mastered it because it’s very difficult to find a job without that basic skill.
Older people can find a diversion in the warm by joining a book reading group, which involves being read to, and in so doing they get access to many books and authors as well as the very important conversation and discussion from people who would be isolated from very important public contact.
A warm library, plenty of information and activities as well as a nice cup of tea.
That would be a lifeline for many older people.
I do hope Warrington Borough Council’s executive follows his lead on this.
