I WAS interested to read about the closure of the sixth form at Bridgewater (Warrington Guardian, November 23).

It follows closely what has happened at Culcheth and Penketh.

When will this Government wake up and start supporting education?

It is quite clear that there are plans to increase competition within schools and colleges and create a business market place.

And what for? To allow free schools to open and private schools and business to prosper.

I am sure the Tories will be happier when we are full of private colleges you have to pay for and all the state ones are left to fall into ruin.

And who is it that mainly suffers in all of this?

Families of course.

I am sure many students already go to other colleges such as Priestley or John Deane’s in Northwich. But there is a cost to that which parents must find.
