I’M almost sorry to say that I did understand the jargon that Alan Dobson (Warrington Guardian, November 9) mentions from the traffic committee report, but I’m not sure it’s worth trying to translate it.
It was perhaps not as bad as one example I heard from a London Transport spokesman.
“We must take cognisance of the pedestrian element in the modal split,” by which he meant some people walk to work.
Sometimes for legal reasons or to match wording with government guidance (eg for grant applications) the jargon cannot be avoided but, even when we think we know what it means, councillors want to see stuff written in plain English.
I shall cascade a memo to the strategic delivery organisational centre.
