AS one who took part, may I, through your newspaper, say that the Festival of Remembrance at the Parr Hall on Saturday was a wonderful tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in both world wars, so that generations could have freedom today.

More so as 2017 marks the centenary of one of the bloodiest campaigns of the First World War at Passchendaele.

It is a great pity that the people of Warrington showed complete apathy to the evening, resulting in a poor audience.

I would have thought that the Parr Hall might have been filled.

But no, I suspect that people were more interested in attending a bonfire.

The majority of us will have ancestors who took part in both world wars but many have very short memories or more to the point, couldn’t care less.

Next year marks the centenary of the end of the 1914 to 1918 hostilities, so come on people of Warrington, get your act together and give it your support in November 2018.
