I WONDERED if anybody else had the same problem I have encountered at Woolston tip?

I went around four weeks ago with an old settee.

As I drive a transit van I had to wait for one of the lads to open the cross bar for me.

When he came he asked me what I had in the van and could I show him. I opened the van and he said ok and let me in.

On Saturday my daughter asked me if I could take her old mattress and wooden bed frame to the tip as she had bought a new bed.

When I got there the lad came over and asked me what was in the van and could he have a look.

I opened the van and he saw the mattress and bed and said I had to have proof of address.

It made me feel like a criminal.

If I was in a car I could have emptied the car and driven away.

I went home and returned with my driving licence. I showed the lad my licence and he let me in.

Nothing was written down or logged and he only glanced at it. It was not a photo ID so it could have been any address.

So what was the point of it all?

What I can’t understand is you can go in with a car and black bags that could contain asbestos or anything toxic and nobody is bothered.

But turn up in a transit van and the skip police try their best to turn you away.

Surely this is going to lead to more fly tipping if common sense is not used?
