THE way the benefit system is moving with everyone receiving the same Universal Credit is on the surface a good thing.
All equally entitled to the same amount.
The new way sees monthly payments and having housing benefit (usually paid directly to the landlord) into the same account at the same time as the universal credit payment goes in.
I moved into a new home on September 9 and was told because Universal Credit pays in arrears I would receive no payment until October 10, leaving me with no money whatsoever for that entire time in a new, unfurnished rented home.
On top of that I also ended up in £400 rent arrears.
I know people play the system but not all of us.
Surely there is an easier, simpler and fairer way to make these changes.
