I HAVE written to Warrington Borough Council regarding the proposed red route and would appreciate it if it can be published on behalf of the Communities Against Warrington Western Link: I moved to Warrington around 11 years ago and have happily settled into my community.

I am married with two children and a dog. I chose the property I live in as it is a quiet residential area near to town but has beautiful green spaces very close by.

I ask you do you live near a park?

If you did you would not propose this ‘link’ road that will destroy part of Sankey Valley Park.

I don’t go out very often to a pub however I value what a local pub like The Sloop can offer its community. New friends, a friendly welcome, a social place to gather and an extended sense of community spirit.

You asked for our thoughts on the revised red route. I absolutely hate it. The road is not designed to offer a solution to our town centre congestion which unless you dig into the true facts you would believe and think its a great idea.

I don’t want a flyover on Sankey Way to ease the traffic flow.

I don’t want you to open up Hood Lane South, I don’t want you to change the access to appease users of David Lloyd. I think Warrington Borough Council is putting finances before constituents.

Yes we need a solution, however this proposal is not fit for purpose.

It is to open up development land near Saxon Park and Morley Common which will increase traffic. It will divert toll paying traffic from Widnes to Runcorn through our town.

It will be a shorter route from the M56 to the M62 for commuters from Warrington but also for everyone else. Have you consulted with residents near Cromwell Avenue up to Westbrook on how they may potentially need a dual carriageway next to them because of increased traffic? Have you consulted with residents near Lane Ends on why the roundabout and existing junction will probably need to change because of increase traffic?

Have you told the town’s residents it will only increase their journey time by around 1.5 minutes and reduce 13 per cent of traffic?

I think not. Perhaps a ring road out of town, a road nearer Fiddlers Ferry or better roads in our town centre would ease traffic, but not the western link as proposed.

Bring a sensible proposal to the people of Warrington, for the people of Warrington.
