I HAVE studied the new proposed route for the Western Link, the red route, and note that those living in the area of Hood Lane South to Penketh Lane Ends will have no direct access southbound to this bypass without doing detours along Sankey Way or out at the new left-turn-only junction on Cromwell Ave South and to retrace the route back to get a southerly access.

This will mean that although those living near the new road with around three high bridges over Liverpool Road and Forrest Way etc will have the noise of the traffic constantly.

This is bad enough from Sankey Way as it is and that’s on level ground.

The new road is a proposed 40mph road that I doubt will ever be policed for the 40 limit.

I think that 30mph should be its limit and access southbound should be available to all in the Hood Lane South area.

It is also proposed to open up Hood Lane South to Sankey Way again, as left turns only.

This will cause rat runs from the new road at peak times.

Once again another road installation which needs a full rethink before work starts.

I assume that the red route was chosen as that caused the least complaints.

The one thing this does for me is to look at Widnes for shopping as it is all in one place and I will have no need to attempt the perilous journey into Warrington.

I have lived here for more than 60 years and watched it become so unfriendly to any kind of transport except red buses.

I despair at road planning in Warrington as it must be done like the Barnet formula for Scotland, on the back of a fag packet.
