MAY I say through your paper, a big thank you to Tony Smith.

He pulled the Wire out of the mire so don’t let people forget that.

I, with my wife, attended the Leigh match and for my reckoning the crowd was barely 7,000, of which 1,000 were from Leigh.

I am sure the figures issued by the Wire of 9,000-plus had taken in season ticket holders and although we got the points the really poor crowd was the final nail in Mr Smith’s coffin.

As to a replacement, I see Mr McGuire is in the frame.

Let’s not forget that Mr Mac brought in the unsavoury wrestling tactics which have no place in rugby league.

He was labelled Mr MacManus (the king of wrestling).

If he is appointed you’ve got to say goodbye to open rugby that the Wire are used to.

I think I will have to think before I renew our memberships.

I suppose quite a few more people will do the same.

So come on Simon, think about the supporters and get an English coach.
