THE local plan was ‘published’ in such a clandestine fashion that most of the residents affected by various aspects of the plans were totally unaware until a group of volunteers started to publicise them.

I do not believe the natural population growth of Warrington will be on anything like the scale provided for in the plan. Especially after Brexit and the news that Warrington will not be a stop for HS2.

Where will all these people come from?

Will we be housing the homeless from Liverpool and Manchester?

Refugees from down south?

Or will we provide a dormitory suburb of executive homes for the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ on our beautiful green belt areas?

Coincidentally providing fat profits for developers, landowners and increased revenue for the council.

Where are the affordable homes that Warrington needs?

Where is the extra hospital provision? They certainly won’t be in the green belt areas of Moore, Grappenhall, Stockton Heath and Appleton.

The council admits this plan is based on its ambitions to become a city and port. What are the ambitions and needs of Warrington’s residents?

Warrington can still claim to be a semi rural location for residents, surrounded as it is with areas of green belt, which protect us from encroachment by our densely populated neighbours.

In order to connect these housing developments new road and transport links are envisaged, one of which would obliterate part of the Trans Pennine way at Grappenhall, and require the demolition of many homes along it and through Latchford.

So our homes and part of Latchford village would be destroyed to make way for a road towards a massive traffic jam.

Many other homes in different parts of Warrington would be affected also.

I cannot object strongly enough to these plans, and cannot see how they will improve the lives of the ordinary residents of Warrington.
