I AM saddened and shocked to hear of the closure of the YMCA in Warrington due to a lack of sustainable funding (Warrington Guardian, June 15).
The YMCA provides essential support services to some of the town’s most vulnerable residents.
The YMCA needs £40,000 per year to cover its running costs.
This is not a huge amount considering that it cost the council £100,000 to put in a bid for City of Culture.
Warrington’s Labour-led borough council is directly to blame for the closure of the YMCA.
They should be ashamed.
We are pleased to hear that some essential services will still be provided through the Room at the Inn.
