I WAS delighted to read in the Warrington Guardian (June 22) that Peel Ports had finally agreed to repaint the town’s three swing bridges, having committed to a programme in the next three years.
Disconcertingly, however, the statement by their spokesman fell well short of that pledge.
It promised only to refurbish the Warburton Toll Bridge and, after that (and associated works) had been completed, develop a detailed programme for other assets.
With no specific mention of the swing bridges and given their past record, should we be worried?
