WARRINGTON Borough Council is right in wanting to shame Peel Ports into repainting the swing bridges at Chester Road, London Road and Knutsford Road (Warrington Guardian, March 23).
Although the bridges I’m sure are maintained to a safe standard, aesthetically speaking they are in a complete state.
The rust is getting worse each year to the point where sooner or later the bridges will be mostly orange in colour.
Anyone looking to invest in the town may think twice if their first impression is one of these crossings.
Peel Ports last year reported pre-tax profits in excess of £40 million.
At only £500,000 for each paint job on the bridges, surely it’s now time for Peel Ports to face up to their responsibilities and pay for a much-needed facelift on their property.
