IT has been observed, not before time, that there has been some cutting back of trees on Lady Lane.

However, it is apparent that the work undertaken is less than halfhearted, as there remains at least several trees on Lady Lane that still encroach (dangerously) on to the highway.

Other trees on other roads previously specifically mentioned remain untouched, as probably do countless other trees on highways within the borough.

These include Broseley Lane, Common Lane, Delph Lane, Gig Lane, Golborne Road, Green Lane, Heath Lane, Hillock Lane, Holes Lane, Mustard Lane, Myddleton Road, Sandy Brow Lane, Smithy Brow, Southworth Lane, Stone Pit Lane, Wigshaw Lane, Wilton Lane.

The list is limited to those roads on which I have had the misfortune to traverse I am reminding the council of its legal duty to maintain the highways as prescribed by Act of Parliament and its abject failure to comply.

It has a duty of care. If it doesn’t want it, vacate the job.

Should there be an event with lifechanging consequences, it will bear the justifiable brunt of criticism.
