THERE seems to be a policy where only one pram can get on the bus with Network Warrington ‘at the driver’s discretion’.

Yesterday I was waiting for the bus. I had my young daughter with me in her pram. While waiting to pick up my other daughter from school a bus came and there was one pushchair on it.

I would have fitted mine in next to it but the bus driver just put his hand up and said ‘no, only one pram’ and drove off.

I waited for the next bus and luckily there was room for me to get on as there was no other prams. But what would have happened if there was another pram and the driver wouldn’t let me on?

I would have then been late to pick up my older daughter from school.

However on another occasion I was travelling to town with my elderly mother and once again my pram.

The first bus that came refused me as there was already one pushchair on.

So I waited for the next bus, which luckily I could get on.

A few stops down a wheelchair came on and the driver let the wheelchair user on.

On the route back from town once again I tried to get on the bus and there was a wheelchair on and the driver would not let me on and refused me.

However this was the same wheelchair that we both had fitted on one bus on the way.

There is no consistency in this policy and it is very frustrating that I could be sat waiting for numerous buses on busy routes with a small chance that a pram is not already on the bus.

Considering one of the bus routes has five primary schools, there may be many parents with younger children in prams.

I’m sure I’m not the only person who will be struggling with this.

We did complain to Network Warrington and the lady was very helpful but she said that it is their policy to only allow one pram on a bus at a time or it is down to the driver’s discretion.
