IN reply to the letter from Catherine Firmin with regards to the history of Osnath Perambulators (Warrington Guardian, January 12).

I can remember that my uncle Jack Lloyd worked there and they had an Osnath pram for my cousin Gwyneth.

When my mother’s sister gave birth to her first baby girl in 1952 after 25 years of marriage, my uncle, who was still working at Osnath, offered to get her a pram direct from the factory.

My mum was given the honour of going to choose it and my uncle Jack was given the job of showing her the range of models that were made.

One such model was covered over and when my uncle took the covers off to show her she immediately said ‘that’s the one’.

When uncle told his boss which one she had chosen he said ‘you weren’t supposed to have shown her that as it’s a special order’.

Nonetheless he said she could have it.

How thrilled we all were, it was so beautiful and as I was 15 years old then I was allowed to push her out in it.

Sometime later, on looking at photographs of the Royal family I was amazed to see a similar baby’s pram.

The building that was the Osnath factory is still there and is now a fireplace shop but the name, until recently was still visible.

I have been told that it has been covered by a banner.

Those who remember it are very proud.
