I WAS pleased to read Jeremy Craddock’s column about mumming (Warrington Guardian, December 22).
Every year in the weeks before Christmas, The Famous Cyty of Thelwall Mummers perform their ‘highly traditional’ play in local pubs and collect for charity.
I have taken part in the mumming since the early 1970s.
Depending on availability of performers, we usually do three or four nights, fitting in four pubs each night. This year we did three nights only and raised more than £430 from the 12 pubs.
The Thelwall Mummers is an offshoot of The Thelwall Morris Men.
More information about us can be found on our magnificent website at thelwallmorris.org.uk.
