I REFER to the announcement by Lloyd’s TSB in Stockton Heath about its closure in March next year (Warrington Guardian, November 24).
Yet another icon removed from the village high street following the recent departure of the post office.
A ruination of a typical Cheshire village.
And what will it be replaced by?
Another restaurant? A takeaway?
Or another charity shop?
Isn’t this what happened to Warrington town centre 10 to 15 years ago? A rapid decline.
It fell into disrepute and became a ghost town and a haunt for late night revellers.
And now WBC realises what a big mistake it made letting it go to rot and intends to reverse the decline and build a new town centre at millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money.
Is this is what they will be doing with Stockton Heath in years to come?
I very much doubt it as they are too busy spending it in the north of Warrington.
As Labour said in 2010 when leaving power, ‘there is no money left’.
