AN article in last week’s Warrington Guardian (November 24) starts with ‘Flowers are set to bloom next spring at a new community garden on Lingley Green in Great Sankey’.

It then refers to a new hedge to ‘hopefully encourage drivers in the area to slow down.’ This feel good factor of a garden provided by the parish council is of total irrelevance compared to the road safety concern raised initially by residents.

The problem is caused, particularly at peak times, by traffic greatly exceeding the 20mph speed limit on Lingley Road and turning left on to Park Road without slowing down at all and then on in the direction of Lingley Mere Business Park.

On a daily basis this causes close shaves for drivers coming out of Fraser Road and Pyecroft Road.

I believe a lot of drivers go up Lingley Road to avoid delays at the traffic lights outside the Trigger Pond pub.

You list people’s suggestions made at the initial parish council meeting but did not include the suggestion made at the meeting that the radius of the kerb at the Lingley/Park Road junction could be substantially reduced (and not affect buses turning) which would force drivers to slow down.

It appears the work is being carried out because 71 per cent of residents requested it in reply to a survey.

Will the parish council apply this same criteria to any future concerns residents have?

Shouldn’t the solution to a safety hazard like this be dealt with by the professionals from the appropriate departments at Warrington Borough Council?

Finally word would soon spread if a few drivers were booked for speeding on Lingley Road.
