I WENT to the Tim Parry Community Centre to view plans for Lingley Green.

As the viewing was not well advertised, the small number who attended were not representative of the area.

At the meeting councillors spoke of Lingley Green as the ‘triangle’ and worse still referred to it as ‘the community garden’. It is neither of these things. It is a green open space to be valued as there are few left in the area.

If benches are installed the chances are that it will be frequented by those people who presently congregate by the shops and the takeaway on Barrowhall Lane. It would become an eyesore with chip papers and containers, cans, bottles, and all the other debris which is presently evident in the park in the morning when I walk my dog.

While I fully agree that some action needs to be taken to slow down the traffic, it is extremely doubtful that a ‘community garden’ would solve the problem.

If the traffic needs calming, the solution is very simple, reroute it, or go back to the drawing board to find a different solution.
