WE are writing about the article in this week’s Warrington Guardian (November 10) regarding the proposed £30 charge for collection of green waste bins.

I would like to make the following points: As I live opposite Orford Park a large proportion of my green bin waste is due to the fallen leaves from the trees facing my house.

Due to the council cutting back on street cleaning one of my almost daily duties is brushing leaves and rubbish from the footpath, kerb and drive of my house and putting the majority in my green bin.

Apart from taking pride in the appearance of my property, if I did not do this I feel the grids would block up and the road would flood outside my house.

Residents in the same position as ourselves who are basically clearing waste that belongs to the council should not have to pay a fee for the privilege.

Why are people being penalised by £3 for making the payment in the contact centre? Not everybody conducts their business online.

Giving participants a sticker to put on their bin as proof of payment is ill conceived. Does the council not think that these will be stolen? If not the sticker then the whole bin?

Will the binmen not be given a route with addresses of people taking up the scheme or will they just roam the streets of Warrington looking for bins with stickers on? If the take up rate of 35 per cent as per the Halton scheme is replicated will it be viable for the council to send lorries out to pick up bins from poorly subscribed areas?

Even if people decide to take their own waste to the tip they are hampered by the restricted opening hours.

The 10am until 4pm opening hours in the week mean people working day shifts cannot even drop waste off before or after work.

I am surprised that Warrington Borough Council thinks there won’t be an increase in fly tipping with such restricted times.
