IT was interesting to see Cllr Russ Bowden join in the debate on the Save Warrington Libraries Facebook page on Friday.

However, his intervention did throw up some interesting questions.

Cllr Bowden, executive member for corporate finance, said the council had not told LiveWire to specifically cut the library budget.

He said WBC had reduced the management fee and it was up to LiveWire to decide where the cuts would be made.

Yet LiveWire managing director Emma Hutchinson went on television and stated the organisation had been told by the council to cut libraries. This had also been said at the two public consultation meetings I attended.

Who is telling the truth?

On Facebook, Cllr Bowden said LiveWire needs to make £300,000 of cuts (this is also in the council’s budget document), yet LiveWire has consistently said it needs to make £650,000 of cuts.

Who is telling the truth?

Regarding inaccuracies, I would suggest Cllr Bowden has a chat with the council’s HR department.

He said the library senior managers who transferred from WBC to LiveWire are still with the organisation.

Not so I’m afraid and a quick check of personnel records will confirm this.
