IN response to Jim Dykes (Warrington Guardian, September 29) regarding a hospital on the site of the Spire hospital, Stretton.
It would appear from an early 1960s map of the area that there was a building called the White House on that site.
Nearby there is another large house named Viewfield and in a Kelly’s Directory of 1939 it lists two surgeons in that property; Charles Edward Bower, physician and surgeon and medical officer to the Ditton Institution and Budworth district and Harry Edward Bower, physician and certifying factory surgeon, medical officer and public vaccinator Budworth district.
He was medical superintendent of isolation hospitals of Runcorn District Council. Perhaps Viewfield was a type of clinic/ isolation hospital?
