IT was with a wry smile that I noticed in last week’s Guardian two pieces about our NHS and our own Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; which were ironic in that one was basically a contradiction in terms of the other (Warrington Guardian, September 29).

The first, a piece from Helen Jones in the MP Matters column, where she went on her usual game of political football with the NHS, which she does most weeks in one form or another in the Guardian.

Most people I think, would agree that major tests of how well a service, whether public or private is performing, is measured by the number and frequency of complaints levelled against it.

It is ironic therefore that on another page is the heading ‘Complaints about trust are falling’ by Adam Everett.

The number of complaints against our hospital trust of 404 are a reduction from last year by a healthy – 15 per cent and of those 404 that there were, just 17.1 per cent ie just 69 of the complaints were upheld.

It would be nice now and again, if our MP would flag up such excellent news as this, as it does help instil confidence and appreciation in the people of Warrington in the knowledge that their hospitals are providing a great service to us – instead of constantly trying to find scare stories to denigrate our Hospitals by using it as a political football all the time.

As the spokesman for the hospital said, ‘it is worth noting the many thousands of thank you messages, cards and social media posts we received each year.’ So instead of berating the state of our NHS and politicising it every week to try to win votes Mrs Jones, why not note what the spokesman says and try to sing its praises now and again?
