WITH reference to Rod King’s letter in the Warrington Guardian (September 8) I was interested by his use of the words ‘mistruths and misled’ and I wonder whether he has really thought this through?

I am not a member of any political party and that includes UKIP but I am old enough to remember the last referendum when Edward Heath told the country that there would be no essential loss of sovereignty if we joined the then common market.

The late Ian Paisley gave a lecture in London on the workings of the EU some years ago and said ‘Each successive treaty takes a little bit more until its all gone’.

Sovereignty that is.

So it is easy to see if you have your eyes open that Ted Heath misled the country and gradually over the intervening years the British people have been quietly misled and conditioned to believe that all will be lost without the European Union.

It is worth noting that the English dictionary has a word for those who give away the governance of their country to a foreign power by misleading the people.

The big lie at the time was that we would have cheap wine, cheap holidays. And so we turned our back on our Commonwealth and sold our birth right for a mess of pottage, to quote the Bible.

The conditioning that I mentioned was most apparent on the day of the Brexit result. Never in all my years have I heard so many babies whining and crying.

They are not prepared to accept a no vote.

Whether you are pro Brexit or not it is quite easy to see that this EU has been advanced by stealth and dissimulation, that is of course if you have your eyes open.

It amazes me that the likes of UKIP have not made this point.

Please be careful when you use the words mistruths and misled, they might come back and bite you.
