AFTER a period away from Warrington and now living back here, I thought I would give you a visitor’s eye on what Warrington now looks like.

A new multi-million-pound market area is being created – interesting.

Yet the market, labelled as the best in the UK, has an awful lot of empty stalls and even some stalls holding junk. This label really is a prime example of false advertising.

Warrington Wolves are fine ambassadors for the town, but take a walk around the stadium and find weeds waist high and enormous amounts of litter.

This is the same on quite a number of streets that visitors to the town would come down – Winwick Road especially.

Walking Day stills exists but barely nowadays.

I remember when it used to last for hours, now it’s a mere trickle of groups.

Maybe it is time to abandon this farce that blocks up the roads for motorists and bring back the Warrington Festival on Victoria Park, making it a massive event.

I passed the Town Hall gates a few days earlier to get up close to things but they are now shabby and in desperate need of repair and paint.

Town centre – shops galore shut down and windows covered over with massive stickers – is a multimillion- pound market area really needed with all the empty stores already?

Why does Warrington need so many fast food establishments and bars? Where’s the planning in this town?

So yes, Warrington has changed, but rather than spend millions on larger things to attract more people, maybe look at what we already have here and keep it tidy for people to appreciate properly.

New things have been put in place but there is massive neglect in other areas.

The town looks scruffy. Bring the pride back.
