I’M writing to encourage our lords and masters to make all bars and clubs in the town serve drinks in plastic glasses and bottles.

I’ve seen it done in Manchester and it makes all the difference.

You feel a lot safer.

Even if the council could ask landlords to apply a plastic glass/ bottle policy on a voluntary basis, that would be a start.

It’s certainly worth exploring.

Maybe the police could supply plastic glasses and bottles to bars on a trial basis.

I know this would require extra funding but I would be willing to pay more tax if it means an increase in public safety.

I’m sure plastic glasses and bottles can both be recycled easily.

Bars in the town have a duty of care towards their punters and a glass bottle can very easily become a weapon in the wrong hands.

Club owners probably won’t want the plastic drinking vessels as they are more expensive than glass containers.

But in the long run it’s well worth it if they want their customers to keep coming back. And think how much the NHS would save.

Glass attacks and accidents are costing the NHS millions of pounds a year.

This would be a great way for pubs to take responsibility.

I know that one night club has already started using plastic glasses.

But I think they were made to.

Our town centre (Bridge Street) is like the Wild West as it is.

Plastic bottles can only help to improve the image of the town.

At the end of the day it is either plastic bottles or plastic surger
