I AM a single mum with two children and I have just taken on my niece as a foster child to prevent her going into care.
I have lived in my rented property for just over seven years but now am about to receive a letter of eviction giving me two months to vacate the property.
I have never missed a rent payment or got into any arrears and yet my home has gone to receivers and the mortgage company is now going to sell due to my landlord not paying his mortgage.
I’m expected to still pay my two months rent and find money for a new home which will include a deposit and a month upfront let alone find a place to go and pack up all my belongings in the space of eight weeks.
I am probably not alone in this situation but I do believe it’s about time a tenant was given a few more rights, especially when they have looked after a house and probably added value to it.
I have no idea yet what I’m going to do or where I will go.
I’m also a childminder so my home is also my business.
I intend to take this further and want this kind of treatment made public.
If I had breached my contract then things would be different.
It’s about time us good tenants had some kind of acknowledgement.
