WHERE have all the Warrington ghosts gone?

Apparently according to science there is no such thing as ghosts but people swear they have seen them.

Our old town of Warrington used to be famous for its ghosts.

I’m talking about streets such as Church Street, Marsh House Lane, Wash Lane, Broadbent Avenue, Wilderspool Causeway and Norris Street.

I’ve never seen a ghost but I love a good ghost story, especially during long winter evenings.

Whenever I used to go into an old country pub I would always asked if it was ‘haunted’.

The bar staff would always give me a ghost story or two.

Now when you ask that question the staff just give you a very oldfashioned look.

So it would seem ghosts are now out of fashion.

In the old days ghosts used to point to the world of pain and bliss beyond the grave.

Are they messengers sent from purgatory?

Are they Saints carrying news from paradise?

Are they the work of the devil?

Or are they simply projections from an unsettled subconscious mind?

There are not many ghost experts left in our town sadly.

Now that Wally Barnes has gone there is only Kevin Mcgrath left.

Over the years I have listened to the experiences of people who had no more reason to believe in ghosts than you or me, but yet they had these strange experiences.

Tonight I will be sleeping with the bedside light on.
