LEAVING hospital with a full knee replacement I am unable to drive my car for six weeks.

My wife and I needed to visit my disabled daughter on Easter Sunday at Callands Nursing Home.

The bus service being reduced on Sunday, we went by taxi.

On leaving the home we were told the bus stop was nearby and that there was a service.

On reaching the bus stop the vandals had taken out one of the windowpanes.

The seats were wet with rain and a cold wind was blowing through the missing pane. We then learned from the timetable we had well over half an hour to wait.

I suppose you could say we were feeling rather despondent.

A young couple in a new type Mini stopped and asked where we were going.

To town was my reply. They said that they did not think there was a service today and would we like a lift.

I said we would be most grateful.

I have a walker and because of my knee I would need to sit in the front.

No problem he said, the walker would not fit in the boot so somehow he sat in the back with the walker between his knees.

They dropped us off in town, where we had a meal and then returned home on our usual bus.

I myself do lots of community work and help to run a group for elderly people.

To find a young couple go to so much trouble and go out of their way like they did is very gratifying.

I would like to thank them most sincerely, I hope they succeed in all their plans for the future.
