I WAS dismayed to read the article in the Warrington Guardian (March 24) regarding Cllr Bill Brinksman (LAB – Rixton and Woolston).

The comments made by various people regarding Bill was nothing short of character assassination.

I have known Bill for more than 30 years as I myself was a councillor for Rixton and Woolston some time ago and know of the hard work that Bill has put in the ward for his constituents.

He is an excellent councillor on both the borough council and Woolston Parish Council and a long standing governor at one of our local schools.

To label him a ‘coward’ because he did not attend last Monday’s council meeting is a disgrace to say the least.

Bill may not have been able to attend for personal reasons.

I am further dismayed that his own party, of whom we were very proud to be a member of for more than 30 years, has treated him in this way.

To de-select him for a ward that he loved to serve, and served well, beggars belief.

I am not convinced that Labour will hold three seats in the May elections (a feat that we were extremely proud of over the years) as Bill has lots of support in the Woolston and Rixton ward.

The Labour party cannot expel me as I have now cancelled my membership with a heavy heart as it is not the national party that is at fault here.
