JAMES Ashington’s letter (Warrington Guardian, March 10) is a disappointment for those of us wanting an open debate on the leave/remain referendum.

His assertion that ‘project fact’ will triumph over ‘project fear’ is my concern.

The phrase is reminiscent of a school playground but far more insidious.

It is designed, ironically, to create fear. A fear that those who disagree with him are not telling the truth.

The reality is that truth and fear are becoming interchangeable in this poor debate.

I have today read a Leave.eu advertisement on Facebook which has a picture of a dramatic Dad’s Army red arrow plunging across from Turkey to Britain with the slogan: “Dave wants to give 75 million Turks access to our NHS.”

Fact or fear?

The use of the NHS logo appears again in another posting entitled: “Press like if you want to save the NHS”.

It goes on: “We give Brussels £350 million a week, which we could spend to save the NHS.”

Would Iain Duncan–Smith, who is presently dismantling the welfare system, really agree to a further £18 billion post Brexit?

But not surprisingly it got thousands of likes.
