THANK goodness Virgin Trains has apologised for the ill-advised advertisement encouraging people to use Runcorn Station instead of Warrington Bank Quay.

Runcorn Station is in the most inaccessible location I have ever experienced.

Having made your way through narrow streets in between rows of houses, there it is looking like two portable cabins on a building site.

Having bought your ticket and proceeded to the platform through the automatic doors to the platform, let’s hope (unless you have an umbrella) that it is not raining as there is no canopy to protect you from the elements.

I agree that Warrington Bank Quay Station is in need of much modernisation and is not in the ideal place but please no more comparisons with Runcorn Station.

I have great respect for Virgin Trains.

At the beginning of December, I was waiting for a train at Warrington Bank Quay to Birmingham, which was delayed because of flooding.

A member of the Virgin staff kept us informed on a regular basis regarding the arrival of the train and later in the day on returning from Birmingham. I have nothing but praise for the staff on a very difficult day for everybody.

So let’s modernise Bank Quay and make it one of best stations in the north.
