MR A Edwards’ letter talks about the so-called national anthem.
It is not a national anthem but a hymn to an individual and a propaganda song for having an unelected head of state.
Mr Edwards appears to imply that in order to be patriotic, or commemorate our service personnel, you need to sing this song and, by extension, be a monarchist. This would be both illogical and deeply offensive.
The sincerity of my attending remembrance events is not reduced by my republican views or my failure to sing a song.
To choose not to sing the song is one of the freedoms that Mr Edwards’ letter mentions as being fought for.
