I WISH to apologise for last week’s cultural tantrum as I have since read Warrington Borough Council’s deliciously ironic Cultural Framework.
It reads: “A thriving destination town with a diverse and strong heritage where arts and culture sit at the heart of future development.”
Our canny career councillors do care.
Let’s just reinstate the past decade which they have airbrushed out: Cavaille-Coll organ (tried to sell), Walton Hall (tried to sell), Bewsey Old Hall (sold to private developers), glasshouses in Bank Park (listed but demolished), glasshouses in Walton Gardens (heading same way) and Warrington Transporter Bridge (do not resuscitate).
I won’t go on for fear of upsetting the kids.
Bad news is I have applied to this exalted thinktank (as a bomb up their backside) but in the meantime there is good news for the little ones.
Ah yes, the council approved rebranding of Sankey Street as ‘pound-tat-shanty-town’ is complete.
Inspired. Happy inheritance.
