A EDWARDS was quite selective in using John McDonnell’s quote concerning the IRA (Warrington Guardian, September 17).

However he/she used a favourite trick of the extreme right and omitted the sentence that puts the quote into context which was: “Let me be clear, I abhor the killing of innocent human beings.

“My argument was that republicans had the right to honour those who had brought about this process of negotiation which had led to peace.”

It’s very easy to embellish other people’s words with hidden meanings as it is also with a picture such as the recent image of our present Queen and sister, as children, being encouraged to perform the Nazi salute by their parents.

I wonder what A Edwards made of that?
