I AM writing to you with regard to the article on trees in Lymm (Warrington Guardian, September 3).

As a resident of Racefield Close, which is on the opposite side of the hedge from Cyril Bell Close, I read in amazement the comments made by Mr Billings.

He described the hedge as a ‘lovely hedge’.

It was in fact an overgrown eyesore and was depriving the residents of Racefield Close of daylight.

It was at least three metres high, well above the two-metre limit as laid out in part eight of the Anti- Social Behaviour Act 2003.

I don’t see why the council should have to consult the residents – the hedge belongs to the council and if they wish to take the hedge down completely then that’s their decision, not the residents.

He states that it will be 10 to 12 years before the hedge gets to even a quarter of its original size.

Perhaps Mr Billings should have researched a little more as these types of hedges grow at around two feet per year.

With regard to his comment about thousands of pounds being taken off the value of the area, Mr Billings obviously doesn’t remember what the area looked like before the properties which he lives in were built.

From Racefield Close we had beautiful views over a large grass field, over the Bridgewater canal and onto Winter Hill in Lancashire.

The construction of Cyril Bell Close wiped these views out immediately for Racefield Close residents – but not for him.
