LET’S get it straight.
The speed restriction recently introduced on Farnworth Road, Penketh, is not a speed bump it’s a chicane.
A deliberate closure of one lane on a two lane road which implies vehicles only speed in one direction.
They don’t and it is only effective at that particular point anyway.
It is poorly signed and close to a bend on an unlit stretch of road that is susceptible to mists at certain times of the year.
If I parked a vehicle there I would be done for causing a dangerous obstruction and quite rightly so.
It’s an accident waiting to happen.
The Town Hall pen-pushers say they have gone by the rules but common sense seems to be sadly lacking.
A far more effective solution would have been properly signed, road-wide speed cushions at several points along that stretch of road – similar to those that work very well on the built up roads in and out of Widnes. It would slow traffic in both directions.
I have sympathy with residents on Farnworth Road but this won’t solve their problem.
What’s been done is just a waste of public money, but as a driver for more than 60 years, what do I know?
