I HAVE a great deal of sympathy with Gary Bebbington over the traffic lights in Stockton Heath.

He makes many good points regarding the timing and phasing.

What bothers me is that I fear there are a great many villages the length and breadth of England missing their very own village idiots for they are all employed by our local council in the roads and road maintenance department.

We have two east – west roads in Stockton Heath, Ellesmere Road and Walton/Chester Road.

Ellesmere Road has been closed for some time and has brought its own level of chaos to the village.

The village idiots in our council then think it’s a good idea to close the second, already a log-jammed thoroughfare. Brilliant planning.

As a result Stockton Heath is devoid of an east/west capability.

One would have thought too that having closed Ellesmere Road the traffic lights in Stockton Heath would have been phased better to allow more east/west traffic to pass.

Nope that didn’t happen either as Mr Bebbington, having stood there in his best anorak and with a stop watch, can attest.

Finally who decided to resurface Bedford Street with a surface more suited to footpaths.

It’s already deteriorating and cutting up.

If it lasts a year I will be very surprised.

I think this one was laid by that well known firm ‘Bodgit and Scarper’.

God save us from our own idiots.
