I AM writing to air my views in relation to an article that was published in the Guardian issued on April 9.

Titled ‘Plan to cut Motorcycle Deaths’, the scheme is so incredibly flawed and by inference suggests that motorcycle accidents are the sole responsibility of the person riding the bike, which real figures will confirm that many fatalities from bike accidents are caused by poor driving of cars, vans and trucks.

I would suggest that Sgt Rick Weaver reconsiders his patronising statement and considers the real cause of motoring accidents that so frequently occur on UK roads, for example, use of mobile phones by drivers while driving, running red lights, aged drivers, lack of vigilance and care of car drivers.

I experience every day the issues above and never see police responding to these activities and I am convinced that the general attitude of the average car driver nowadays is total disregard for other road users and a complete lack of courtesy that puts motorcyclists, pedestrians and other road users at risk.

Educate and actively police the real offenders here and stop targeting the easy hits and as usual discriminating against the minority road user that is a motorcyclist.

As a motorcyclist with 40 years experience I can hold my hand on my heart and say that I see more skill and vigilance when I see other bikers than I ever experience with the majority of other road users.

If this joke that is Operation Caesar goes ahead, make no mistake that this will alienate the motorcycling community and will show the police force in a very bad light.
