WITH the forthcoming election now getting into full swing, let us not forget what a financial disaster this coalition walked into in May 2010.

A massive national debt never seen before by this country, caused by irresponsible, irrational spending by the previous Labour government, which for its 13 years in power had let the British citizen down badly.

It even had the audacity to leave a note to the incoming Coalition government saying ‘There’s no money left, it’s all gone’.

This coalition government has turned the country round. Yes, unpleasant decisions have been made but they have been for the benefit of the nation as a whole, not to pander to individuals.

The country is the only one of the EU countries whose economy is growing steadily under carefully considered and rational decisions.

The Labour government encouraged private investment in our hospitals, in other words remortgaging the hospitals, and trusts now find themselves in dire financial difficulties to repay the money.

The Labour government failed to control immigration effectively when eastern European countries joined the EU in 2004 and Labour failed to impose restrictions on migrants.

That is why we struggle to find housing, school places, doctors’ appointments, access to the NHS, etc, because these services are at breaking point under an overwhelming population, part of which has migrated from Europe.

The Labour government encouraged people to live on benefits rather than get out and get a job.

That’s why the welfare debt grew and grew under the Labour regime.

The Labour party sold our gold reserves that were supposed to support our national pension fund.

When you vote on May 7, think before you put the cross in the box.

Do you want to return to the days of Labour’s boom and bust strategy?

Don’t turn back the clock and the good work that this coalition government has achieved.
