WARRINGTON Green Party is appalled at the lacklustre response of the borough council to a request for emergency housing from a couple who have been forced to live in their car since February.

Philip and Victoria Sherlock took out a payday loan to cover their rent after Philip could no longer work due to health problems.

After selling some of their furniture, they took out a payday loan as a last resort to try to pay the rent.

Then their interest payments starting spiralling out of control.

They now live in their Ford Focus which they park up on an industrial estate.

When Philip and Victoria went to the housing office at Warrington Borough Council to ask for emergency accommodation they were turned down.

The council said that they were not considered high risk enough.

How can the council say that Victoria and Philip were not in sufficient need? This response is cruel and heartless.

It’s particularly unacceptable when you consider the salary levels of top council chiefs.

The Green Party stands for a fairer and more compassionate society. We are the anti-austerity choice at the forthcoming elections and would seek to end this kind of treatment of genuinely deserving people.
