I ATTENDED the Election Debate at the Friends’ Meeting House on Thursday.
It was a lively night, with a number of wide ranging questions of concern to residents of Warrington South.
Just what grassroots democracy should be, and it’s a shame more voters don’t engage with such events.
I must say though that the biggest surprise was how appallingly bad the UKIP candidate was.
At times members of the audience laughed at him, so pathetic were his responses.
The guy was like a rabbit caught in car headlights and if I supported UKIP I’d have been horrified.
I don’t support UKIP because they’re more right-wing than the Tories. But I’ve seen Nigel Farage and others interviewed dozens of times, and they’re good at putting across the party’s headline messages.
This leaves viewers with the opportunity to consider those messages and how they compare to the other parties.
But UKIP’s candidate for Warrington South was barely capable of stringing together sentences.
